What is Religious Trauma?

Religious Trauma is psychological, physical, social, sexual and spiritual damage resulting from highly authoritarian religious environments with harmful beliefs, rituals, messages and ideologies.

How do I know I have religious trauma?

Being apart of a religious environment or family system that holds rigid binary beliefs, absolute judgments and uses fear or shame to control someone’s behavior or body is not only abusive, but can mimic symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

What is Religious Trauma Therapy like?

This therapy is centered around building trust and safety to be able to process and talk through some of your experiences. We will explore some of the physical and psychological impact of highly controlled religious environments, and give you a voice to be able to understand in a way that feels safe and meaningful to you. Since Religious Trauma Syndrome typically involves symptoms of PTSD, we will also used a trauma-informed approach to support you throughout the process.
